Programme Features
- In collobaration with Lingnan Institute of Further Education
- The programme is designed for practicing dental surgery assistants or those aspiring to enter the field of dental surgery assistants;
- The programme is taught by experienced dentists, senior dental surgery assistants or qualified medical service / dental professionals from Project Concern Hong Kong;
- The programme consists of 48 hours of lectures, as well as 46 hours of clinical practice / education project and 12 hours of clinical training, emphasising both theory and practical skills;
- Taught in Cantonese supplemented with English, and the teaching materials are in Chinese and English.
Admission Rquirements
- Level 2 in five HKDSE subjects including Chinese Language and English Language or equivalent; OR
- A recognized Diploma Yi Jin / Diploma of Applied Education; OR
- Aged 21 or above at the commencement of the programme plus minimum 1-year health related work experience; OR
- Other equivalent qualifications to be assessed by LIFE.
Professional Qualification and Recognition
- This course is reognized under the Qualifications Framework (QF level 3), QR Registration No: 18/000545/L3
- Completion requirements:
- Pass each module taken with overall passing mark of 50% and
- At least 80% attendance rate for lectures in all modules taken and at least 80% attendance rate for non-lectures in all modules taken
- Certifcate in Dental Surgery Assisting will be issued jointly by Lingnan Institute of Further Education and Project Concern Hong Kong to those who have sucessfully completed the programme

- Dental theory: tooth anatomy, periodontal charting
- Endodontics and impression
- Occupation safety and health
- Digital scanning and dental materials for filling
- Skills: complaint handling, appointment, inventory control, patient record keeping
- Basic pharmacology, anesthesia and pain control
- Introduction to orthodontics
- Introduction to oral & maxillofacial surgery, oral pathology and implant
- Special needs dentistry and sedation
B. Clinical practical
- Scaling, suction and rubber dam
- Amalgam and loading matrix band, mixing IRM
- Composite, revision of amalgam and LA
- Minor oral surgery and scalpel, elevator
- Root canal treatmen
- Charting (II), 4-handed dentistry and moisture control (3-hour clinical lecture)

C. Clinical Training

- Application fee: HK$200
- Course fee: HK$17,800 per programme
