The Proper Use of Eye Drops / Ointments

  • The eye drops / ointments cannot be used after one month once it was opened.

  • You should cut your fingernails and wash your hands before using eye drops and ointments.

  • Tilt your head back, open your eyes and pull down your lower eyelid (as picture shown below) with your fingers.  Squeeze the dropper gently to put eye drops into the pouch.  Close your eyes for 5 minutes.

  • As for the eye ointments, gently pull the lower eyelid down to create a pouch where you should put a thin line of ointment.  Close your eyes for 15 minutes.

  • If two kinds of eye drops were prescribed, wait at least 5 minutes before instilling the next drop.

  • If both eye drops and ointments were prescribed, use the eye drops first and wait at least 5 minutes before applying the ointments.

  • Use the eye drops and ointments as instructed by opthalmologist.

  • If drugs allergy occurs, you should stop using the eye drops or ointment and bring along the medications to consult a doctor.
